Helen Luree (Martin) Wood
December 4, 1935 ~ August 19, 2024

Helen Luree Wood, born December 4, 1935, in Haskell, Oklahoma, to Pete Calamus and Iva Luree (Kirk) Martin, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She had attained the age of 88 years, 8 months, and 15 days.

An Oaks Mission High School class of 1953 graduate, Helen and L.D. Wood were united in marriage on March 15, 1955. To this union was born three children: Vickie Renea, Thomas Richard, and Leslie Douglas. Helen and L.D. shared more than 55 years of marriage before his passing on March 26, 2010.

Helen was an active member of the Lowery Free Will Baptist Church. She devoted herself to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. To help support her family, she worked at Whittaker State Home and later spent many years as a cook at the Claremore Veteran’s Center. Alongside L.D., Helen enjoyed farming, including raising cows, chickens, horses, and strawberries.

Helen took great pride and joy in preparing meals for her loved ones, with her cherished barbecue sauce being a favorite among many. Her resilience, hardworking nature, and steadfast love for her family and friends will be remembered fondly. Although she could be stubborn, her warmth and dedication made a lasting impact on those around her. Her love and dedication will be missed dearly.

Helen is survived by: 1 son: Doug Wood and wife Mary of Navarre, Florida; 1 daughter-in-law: Rhonda Wood of Neosho, Missouri; 6 grandchildren: Richard Wood and wife Jennifer, Destiny Christiansen and husband Todd, Kyle Wood and wife Crystal, Kimberly Kelly, Bryan Wood, and Kevin Morrison; numerous great grandchildren; 1 brother: Robert Calamus Martin and wife Becky of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 1 daughter: Vickie Renea Morrison; 1 son: Thomas Richard Wood; 2 sisters: Louise Evans and Melva Golightly; and 1 granddaughter: Keisha Wood.

Private family graveside services were held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Elm Cemetery near Leach, Oklahoma. Reverend Bryson Bailey officiated. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
