Alice Artema McAllister was born on March 27, 1917 in Newhope near Foss, Oklahoma to William Edmond and Mary Etta (Whittenberg) McAllister and passed away on May 17, 2014 at her residence in Elk City, Oklahoma
Alice and Floyd Clifford Shelton were married on November 9, 1940 in Clinton, Oklahoma. During their life together, Alice and Floyd lived nearly their entire life in western Oklahoma. During her life, Alice Shelton had two children, Lee Roy Shelton born on December 11, 1941, and tragically died two days later. On July 4, 1954, Alice gave birth to Martin (Marty) Edwin Shelton. Their first years of marriage, Floyd and Alice owned and ran a chain of gas stations that provided a sustainable income for the couple. However, due to gas rationing during World War II they moved to California and worked in an airplane factory and the shipyards as part of the war effort. Afterwards they moved back to Oklahoma and again opened a chain of gas stations and saved money to eventually buy a farm and ranch east of Elk City that they both lived on until Floyd's death on August 8, 1983
Alice and Floyd enjoyed their life raising cattle and their son Marty. After Floyd's passing, Alice continued to raise cattle with the help of her son and grandson. She also enjoyed crocheting and the company of family, traveling to see other parts of the country, or revisiting locations from her past to see how the world had changed during her years.
Survivors include her son Martin Edwin Shelton and his wife Becky of Frisco, Texas; grandson, John Clifford Shelton and his wife, Amanda of Midland, Texas; and great-grandson, Gabriel John Shelton also of Midland, Texas.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Floyd; one infant son, Lee Roy and her parents, William and Mary McAllister.
