Graveside services for Gus L Ray, age 76 of Elk City, were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Oceola Cemetery north of Butler with Rev. Bobby Stewart of Clinton officiating. Burial was under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Gus was born January 20, 1929 to Tude and Bessie Brown Ray in Butler Oklahoma and died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at the Bell Avenue Nursing Home in Elk City.
He was reared in the Butler area and attended school in Oceola. He farmed in the Butler area until his retirement in 2000.
He married the former Dorthey Martin. In 1962 he married Roberta Keeton Tull, who preceded him in death in 2001.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Charlena Ray; a brother, Marvin; and his parents.
He is survived by a daughter, Lila "Muffet" Woodring and her husband, Terry, of Woodward; sons, Mitchell Ray of Putnam, Marty and Anna Ray of St. Joseph, Mo., Charles Ray and his wife, Laura, of Foss, David Ray of Clinton; stepsons, Robert and Keith Tull; a foster son, David Penn; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Leslie Pete Ray of Clinton, Melvin Ray of Foss; sisters, Delsie Lorraine Martin of Norman, Muriel M. Amant and Sally Lushenko, both of Missouri, Bessie Angelina Ray of Oregon, Willma Ruth Mancey of Burns Flat, LaVone Jones of Noble and Verna Mae Casad of Sandy.
