Myrtle Eleanor Hazel
Funeral services for Myrtle Eleanor Hazel, 88, of Thomas, will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Freedom Worship Center Assembly of God in Thomas, Oklahoma with Jerry Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Thomas.
Myrtle Eleanor Spangler Hazel went to her eternal home on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the age of 88 years surrounded by family at the Hennessey Care Center. Myrtle was born on March 11, 1927 in Fay, Oklahoma to O.M. “Jack” and Carrie (Phipps) Spangler. She grew up on the family farm and attended school at Fay, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life Glen Dale Hazel, June 17, 1943. They moved to California where their first son was born. They returned to Oklahoma and lived south of Watonga where their family grew by two sons and one daughter. They then moved back to California where they raised their children until the death of her husband in 1961. She returned to Fay, Oklahoma in 1964. Myrtle cooked for many years at the Fay and Thomas schools where she later retired. Her family and church were well blessed with her baking skills. Myrtle was an adamant fan of her children and grandchildren in their sporting activities. She spent many years as a nursery teacher at the Assembly of God Church in Watonga and Thomas where she was a faithful member her entire life.
Myrtle is survived by her sons, Murral Hazel and wife, Loreta of Inola, Oklahoma, Earl Hazel and wife, Linda of Hennessey, Oklahoma, Bob “Wayne” Hazel and wife, Judy of Anthony, Kansas; son-in-law Tommy Foust of Thomas, Oklahoma; Grandchildren, Crystal Tolleson, Dale Hazel, Kevin Hazel, Dawn Shaw, Kathryn Meeker, Micah Hazel, Ginger Osborne, Brandon Hazel, Saige Hazel, Darin Foust, Justin Foust, and Katrina Morgan; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Shamburg of Hennessey, Oklahoma and Nellie Lowder of Fairview, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Dale Hazel; one daughter, Mae Hazel Foust; her parents, O.M. “Jack” and Carrie Spangler; three brothers, Marvin Spangler, Archie Spangler, and David Spangler; two infant siblings; and two sisters, Olive Kraybil and Chrissie Quail.
