Funeral services for Wilbur J. Hays, 96 year-old former Weatherford, Oklahoma, resident, will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. in "The Chapel" of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford, with Rev. Lynn Brack officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Wilbur was born to Frank and Lula (Wolfe) Hays on October 13, 1906, in Brookfield. Missouri, and passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2003, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Wilbur was raised and attended school in Custer City, Oklahoma, graduating in 1924. He then attended auctioneer school in Wichita, Kansas. Wilbur returned to Weatherford where on December 23, 1936, he married Goldie L. Lawter.
He was active in auctioning and ranching. In 1994, he moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma, to be near his son. Wilbur enjoyed racehorses. Memorials may be made to the Goldie and Wilbur Hays Memorial Scholarship Fund through S.W.O.S.U. or the Epworth United Methodist Church of Chickasha Building or Bus Fund.
Wilbur is survived by one son, Robert J. Hays and his wife, Shirley of Chickasha, Oklahoma; two brothers, Claud Hays and Dorothy of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and Frank Hays and his wife, Jane of Hope, Arkansas; one sister, Lois Fay Puckett and her husband, Mutt of Bosier City, Louisiana; two granddaughters, Stacey Hirsekorn of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and Stephanie McCall and her husband, Charles of Atoka, Oklahoma; and four great grandchildren, Abigale and Maggie Beth Hirsekorn of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Charles Andrew (Chase) McCall IV, and Carson Hays McCall of Atoka, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother, Earl.
