Till Atteberry was born November 3, 1935 in Cordell, OK to Mary and John Stelting. Till passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on December 5, 2019. Till was the youngest of 13 children.
She attended school in Weatherford, OK and surrounding towns. Till met John at the young age of 13. She was baptized in the Catholic Faith the day before they were married. Their wedding was held at Blessed Virgin Catholic Church in Hydro, OK on December 1, 1953. Shortly to follow they found themselves young parents of two daughters and one son. In 1962 John, Till and their three children moved to Cheyenne where John worked on the S&S Ranch. In 1973 another daughter was born to their family.
Till had several jobs in her lifetime but being a mom was most important to her. She stayed at home with her children until they started to school. Of the many jobs she had, she said recently, she was so proud to have worked for Johnny Cannon in his insurance agency. Although formal education was the 8th grade, she took a college typing course at Sayre and received an A. She still has her report card. Till retired from Cheyenne Public Schools as the cafeteria manager when she was 62. Till cared for John, her husband until his death in 2007. Till loved plants, gardening, cooking, cows, old westerns, puzzles, time spent with family, coffee and oh, did we mention COWS! They adorned every room in her home. If we could say anything about Till, it would be she was the most caring, humble, honest, un-judgmental person you could meet. Her door was always open for anyone, her cookie jar was always full of M&M cookies and her coffee was always hot and ready.
Till was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Stelting, brothers, Abraham, Walter and John Stelting, her sisters, Tina Classen, Mary Penner, Margie Ladish, Helen Peacock, Ann Duibly, Leona Davis, Elfreida Horton, Bertha Jennings, daughter in law, Geneva Atteberry, daughter, Anna Marie Marshall and husband of 53 years, John Atteberry.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Atteberry and Carrie Lovett of Cheyenne, OK, daughter, Kathy Crum and husband Mike of Reydon, OK, daughter, Susan Mayfield of Elk City, OK, grandchildren, Karen Gorday, Larry John Marshall, Wesley Atteberry, Richard Atteberry, Lexington Mayfield, Rowdy Mayfield, Dylan Mayfield, Matthew Crum and Alicia Kyle, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, as well as her forever faithful companion, Sparky also too many other relatives and friends to count.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to omrf.org for cancer research.
