Stacy Riggs, grandson of Chief Black Kettle died September 16, 1942 at his home in Clinton at the age of 82 years.

Black Kettle Park, immediately west of Cheyenne, was named for the chief of the Cheyenne Indians. Black Kettle lost his life in the Battle of the Washita near Cheyenne in 1868.

Black Kettle's kelton was found ten years ago and now is on display in the office of the Cheyenne Star.

A full-blooded Cheyenne, Lone Wolf was born somewhere in Kansas, the grandson of the famous chief, Black Kettle.

His father was known as White Buffalo and his mother as Young Buffalo Woman but somewhere they acquired the name Riggs and named their son Stacy.

Riggs was a graduate of Carlisle Institute in Pennsylvania and was named on the All-American football team in 1880 as halfback.

Later he came to Texas and served as a government scout out of Fort Elliott.

He came to Oklahoma from Fort Elliott and was well known as an Indian scout throughout the territory.

He took part in the battle of Sand Creek, Washita, Little Big Horn, and Dull Knife.

For many years he had lived with his family on their farm near Clinton.

In ill health for a long time, he spent many of his last months in the state Indian hospital at Clinton.

He served for many years as a correspondent for the Clinton Daily News.
