Dean was raised in Fort Supply where he attended and graduated from high school in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in January of 1953 serving overseas duty and was honorably discharged in 1957. And was on reserve status until 1961.
He was married to Deloris Fern Lanham on March 8, 1958 in Fargo,
Oklahoma. They made their first home in Fargo, Oklahoma where he was
employed in a gas station. He began a career with the Farmers Coop while
living in Fargo and was later transferred to Manchester and then settled in
Clinton where he retired in 1988 after 30 years of service.
For the past several years he has been a “Picker” (before Picking was
popular). He loved to buy and sell re-usable items, some good and some not
so good.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Opal Selvey and Ruby Heinze and an infant brother Chester Watkins.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris of the home, two daughters, Deanna
Clothier and husband, Gifford, Clinton and Debbie Herring, Fleming, CO, a
son Danny Watkins and wife, Valerie, of Cordell, OK, sister, Viola Matt, of
Woodward, OK and a brother, Claude Watkins and wife, Janice of Cordell, OK.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, Mittie Helm and husband, Matt, of
Wylie, CO, James Herring, of Fleming, CO, Daniel Watkins, Cordell, OK,
Bailey Armstrong, Durant, OK ,Gina Hernandez and husband, Ramon of Hobart,
OK and Deanna Barnwell, and husband, Mitchell, of Hobart, OK and three
great-grandchildren, Kasey Helms, Aaron Hernandez, Ashlie Stafford and
husband, LaTrell and a great-great granddaughter, Alexa Shaddix; and special
family Leonard and Jeanie Jackson, of Clinton and many other dear friends.
