Funeral services for Oscar (O.H.) Thurmond will be conducted at the Baptist Church in Clinton on Thursday afternoon, December 6, 1945 at 2:00 o'clock. Mr. Thurmond died early Tuesday morning. He was born in Dido, Texas, Tarrant County, September 26, 1869, passed away at 4:30 a.m. December 4, 1945, at Clinton, Oklahoma. Mr. Thurmond had been ill about ten days.
He moved to Mobettie, Texas in 1885, made the run to Cheyenne Arapaho country in 1892 and staked a claim one-half mile south of Cheyenne, Oklahoma. From the year 1892 to 1898 Mr. Thurmond was engaged in cattle business and general merchandising store with his brothers.
In 1898 Mr. Thurmond started in the banking business with his brothers. In 1902 he moved to Erick, Oklahoma where he becamed President of the First National Bank. In 1903 he married Sallie Longmore of Erick. In 1903 Mr. and Mrs. Thurmond moved to Clinton, Oklahoma, and he was president of the First National Bank of Clinton from 1907 to 1919.
Mr. Thurmond had been a deacon in the Baptist church for the past forty years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. O.H. Thurmond of Clinton, his sister, Mrs. C.E. Gannaway of Clinton, his brothers, E.K. Thurmond, Los Angeles, Califonia, I.C. Thurmond, Amarillo, Texas; A.L. Thurmond and J.P. Thurmond of Elk City, Oklahoma.
His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Thurmond have preceded him in death.
