Obituary for Mareeta Ream

Mareeta Ream was born December 3, 1921 in Foss, Oklahoma to Iva Myra and William Joel Counts. She passed away February 10, 2016 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years, 2 months and 7 days.

Mareeta grew up in and attended schools in Dill City, Oklahoma. She moved with her family to Canute, Oklahoma where her father owned his own mechanic shop. At the age of 15 she was married to James McCannon on August 12, 1937 in Dill City, Oklahoma. After their marriage they moved to Elk City where James was a mechanic and welder and Mareeta was a homemaker and raised their children. Mareeta and James remained in the Elk City area and Mareeta also found employment at Swinehart Construction as a secretary. Upon James' death on September 10, 1961 Mareeta remained in Elk City where she raised her children.

She was later married to Alvin E. Ream at Wheeler, Texas on September 1, 1963 and they made their home in Clinton, Oklahoma where Alvin worked for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. They retired in 1974 and moved to Bessie, Oklahoma where they enjoyed traveling with their camper all over the United States. Mareeta also enjoyed crafts, volunteering at the Clinton Hospital and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, James Henry McCannon, second husband, Alvin Ream, son, Billy Ream, daughter, Alvita Ream Sheldon and 1 brother, William Orville Counts.

She is survived by 6 children, Vivian Davis and husband, Donnie, Elk City, OK, Vinita Gamble, Somerville, TX, June Frenchman and husband, Andrew, Somerville, TX, Norma Hardesty and husband, Johnny, Elk City, OK, James McCannon, Elk City, OK, Joe Ream and wife, Oleta, Amarillo, TX; 25 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 38 great great grandchildren, 2 great great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
