Funeral services for Frank Roby "Toby" Starr, 70, Hammon resident will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Hammon High School Auditorium officiated by Rev. Jay Swallow, Rev. Joe Fletcher, Rev. David Flick and Rev. Clyde Johnson, Jr. with burial following in the Hammon Indian Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home.
Frank was born January 1, 1928 to Harry and Freda Turle Road Starr in Hammon and died early Sunday, April 12, 1998 in the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City following a bout with cancer.
He was raised in the Watonga area and achieved in baseball while attending his schooling in Watonga and moved to the Hammon area before marrying his wife, Christine Finger Nail on August 28, 1951.
He attended trade schools for plumbing and also auto mechanics.
He worked for the Clinton Indian Hospital in the maintenance department for Oklahoma Furniture Factory in Guthrie, Oklahoma; the Roger Mills County Barn; and retired from the Hammon School in 1996 after 28 years of service.
He was a member of the Native American Indian Church and had held numerous NAIC meetings from Taos, New Mexico across Oklahoma and other places he was called upon. He was also a member of the Hammon Indian Baptist Church.
He had won the domino championship at the all Indian Tournament in Oklahoma City.
He is survived by his wife, Christine of the home; six daughters, Leann Starr, Charlene Threlkeld, Marietha Johnson and Barbara Sage, all of Hammon; Joyce Starr of Taos, New Mexico; and Sharon Downs of Ft. Worth, Texas; his son, Thurman Starr of Hammon; several adopted children, Linda Zarytski of Toronto, Canada; Tom Blassingame of Austin, Texas; Jess Celzade of Carrolton, Texas; Frank Ettenity of Kirtland, New Mexico; Leslie Swinerton of Geary, Oklahoma; Wilma Blackowl of El Reno, Oklahoma; Lynn Singinger of California; Charlene Curtin of Clinton; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and several adopted grandchildren.
There will be an all night wake service Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Hammon Indian Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Starr.
