Janice Pearl Burgess, 75 years old, passed away on February 18, 2024, in Terlton, Oklahoma, surrounded by her loving family. Janice was born on April 14, 1948, in Borger, Texas, to Robert Coleman (R.C.) and Anna Julia Ballard. She graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1966 and worked as a Paraprofessional with the Cleveland School District for over 25 years. She married Dennis Burgess on October 27, 1972, and they had three daughters together.
Janice was known for her beautiful smile, joyous laugh, and witty banter, and she was loved by many for never meeting a stranger. She was an avid reader and took advantage of her local libraries. She enjoyed watching the occasional soap opera and basketball games and visiting with her family and friends. Planning family gatherings was the highlight of her days, and she valued her family above all things. Her daughter's friends affectionately referred to her as "Mama Janice." She will be remembered for her delicious homecooked meals, love of card games, loving work with special needs students, and charitable work with the Indian Electrical Roundup Foundation. Janice was also a member of the Church of Christ Church in Mannford, Oklahoma for 45 years.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, R.C. and Anna Ballard, brother Robert Ballard, and brothers-in-law, Bert Lewis and Ernie Nanney.
Janice is survived by her husband Dennis Burgess, daughter Angela Frew and husband, Randy Frew of Terlton, OK, daughter Carrie Alexander and husband, Eric Alexander of Broken Arrow, OK daughter Holly Burgess of Long Beach, CA; grandsons Benjamin Frew and Isaac Brown, Justus Garcia, Jackson Garcia, Jaden Garcia, and granddaughter, Delaney Caceres, brother Kenneth Ballard and wife Pat Ballard of Victoria, TX, brother Joe (Rusty) Ballard and wife Twana Ballard of Pretty Water, OK, sister Jean Lewis of Barnsdall, OK, sister Phyllis Nanney of Sapulpa, OK, sister Dee Brooner and husband Clyde Brooner of Allen- Bowden, OK, and sister, Nelda Douglas and husband Kenneth Douglas of Sapulpa, OK, and sister-in-law Charlotte Ballard of Laurens, SC, and twenty-eight nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Chapman Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, OK, on Thursday, February 22, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 23, at 1:00 pm at Mannford Church of Christ.
