LaValle Russell, 68, of Jenks, passed from this life on Feb 15, 2018 in Tulsa. He was born on September 14, 1949 in Clinton, OK to Harvey Cicero Russell, Sr., of the Northern Cheyenne, and Frances (Nibbs) Russell, of the Southern Cheyenne. Harvey Sr. was in the U.S. Air Force, serving as an airplane mechanic, which would influence LaValle to later enlist.
LaValle grew up in the Seiling area where he attended school. Shortly before graduation, LaValle enlisted in the United States Navy where he served three tours in Vietnam on the USS Paul Revere (LPA-248) from 1968 to 1972 when he transferred to the naval reserve until 1974.
After receiving his honorable discharge, LaValle returned to Oklahoma where he completed his GED at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and then attended Southern Nazarene University where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management. Later at Tulsa Community College, LaValle attained two Associates of Applied Science: one in Electrical Substation Technology and another in Electronics Technologist, and three Certificates of Achievement: the first for Electrical Substation Technology, the second in Alternative Energy, and the third in Business Computer User.
He worked as a contractor in the wind turbine and electrical fields for many years.
LaValle and Diane M.D. Cooper met in February 2010, and on May 1, 2013 the two were joined in marriage at Taos, NM, and they made their home in Jenks. LaValle was a proud veteran and member of the DAV and VFW, as well as the Cheyenne Warrior Society. LaValle was a member of the Native American Church. LaValle later was baptized into the 1st Tulsa Seventh Day Adventist Church in Tulsa, OK with his wife Diane and Sister Patricia Mousetrail Russell in 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Russell, Sr. and Frances (Nibbs) Russell, and a son Scott Lionel Russell.
LaValle is survived by his wife Diane of the home; eight children, Lena Black of El Reno, Brandon Cooper, Juliette Cooper, LeiLani Russell, A Donis Russell, LeiLa Russell, Kingston Russell, and Meccah Pollock-Johnson; step-son Pvt. 1st Class Lamartine H.S. C. Duverger, II, U.S. Army; six grandchildren Camilla Russell, Violet Black, LaKylah Black, Cheyanna Black, Derek Scott Black, and Adrian Black; and two great grandchildren Nadianna Monts-Paz and Marianna Paz; ten brothers and sisters Patricia Mousetrail of Oklahoma City, Harvey Russell, Jr. of Seiling, Leeanna Mousetrail-Russell and husband Daniel Moses, Sr. of Seiling, Clifford Russell and wife Dana of Spavinaw, OK, Cheryl Wynne Quick and husband Virgil of Kingfisher, Matthew Russell and wife Ruthie of El Reno, Mona Russell, Millie Russell of Marysville, WA, Marcella Russell of Marysville, WA, and Monty R. Russell of El Reno, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Cheyenne Wake Service will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018, starting at 7:00 PM at the Concho Community Hall (200, Wolf Robe Cir, El Reno, OK 73036).
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Concho Community Hall.?? Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Sapulpa, OK with full military honors. A reception will be held after the service at the First Baptist Church (175 S. Park in Sapulpa).
