On November 20, 1937, a beautiful baby boy was born to John and Gertrude Grant. They named him Lawrence. Lawrence attended Booker T. Washington High School in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Upon leaving High School, Lawrence joined the Navy. During this time, he married his High School Sweetheart, Ruby Jean Baker, and to that union seven boys were born. Ruby predeceased Lawrence. He had an honorable discharge from the Navy with many commendations and medals.
After being out of the service, Lawrence went to work at McDonnell Douglas for several years. Lawrence decided he missed military life and joined the Air Force Reserves where he served with honor until he was discharged with another honorable discharge.
Lawrence joined the Tulsa County Sheriff Office as a Deputy. During this time Lawrence also joined the Army National Guard and served until his retirement from both in 1999 with 28 years time served.
Lawrence remarried. He and Wanda Russell remained together until God called him home on September 18, 2024.
Lawrence leaves to grieve his home going, his wife Wanda M. Grant. Ten sons, Lawrence Jr (Houston, TX), Michael (Tulsa), Reginald (Debra-wife) (Muskogee), Lloyd (Valinda-wife) (Tulsa), Floyd (Tulsa), Christopher (Sand Springs), Douglas (Nancy-wife) (Tulsa), Anthony (OKC), Carlos (CA), and Daryl Davis (Tulsa). One daughter, Starlett (NayNay) (Los Angeles). Nieces and Nephews, and 28 grandchildren with the overflow of great-grandchildren and great, great- grandchildren.
Lawrence is Greeted in the Kingdom by his Mother, his Father ,brothers Theo and Luther and sisters Betsy and Ernestine.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 11:00am at Calvary Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Green Hill Funeral Home.
