Gladys Mae Towers, age 95 of Byars, OK passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 2, 1921, in Garland, Arkansas. She was the 2nd of 9 children born to John Pryor Cargill and Decie (Crosby) Cargill. Gladys's father worked in the oilfield and when she was one-year-old her family moved to Drumright, Okla. She lived in Drumright her growing up years and graduated from Drumright High School in 1939. That same year after graduation she married the love of her life, Junior Henry Towers and together they raised six children. Over the years they lived in various towns including, Purcell, OKC and Houston. Then in 1970 they moved north of Byars to the Johnsonville, Community. Gladys worked as an instructor in the telephone assembly plant for Western Electric for 20 years. After retiring from Western Electric she worked for the Purcell Wal-Mart for 10 years. Gladys was an avid gardener and enjoyed researching her family genealogy. She also loved raising farm animals, quilting and going to church. She was a member of the Byars Baptist Church for many years. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a special sister and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: Parents: John and Decie Cargill, Husband: Junior Towers in 1988, 5 Children: Roberta, Jimmy, Marie & Connie Towers and Marilyn Williams, Son-in-Law: Ted Williams, 3 Brothers: John, Pete and Bobby Cargill, 2 Sisters: Evelyn Young and Pauline Harowitz, She is survived by: 1 Son: James Henry Towers and Cheryl Wilkerson of OKC, 3 Sisters: Opal McBroom and husband Bob of Manford, OK, Juanita Johnson of Sapulpa, Lois Kuphal of Arizona; 9 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, 23 Great Great Grandchildren, Many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. A committal service will be at 2:00pm Wed. at Drumright North Cemetery in Drumright, OK. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Byars Garden Club, 14726 Ropers Ave. Wayne, OK 73095.
