Rodney Blaine Carroll passed away due to heart complications on March 7, 2023 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at age 60 years, 8 months, & 12 days. His daughter Katie was at his side, holding his hand as Jesus reached for his. "Rod" was born on June 23, 1962, to R.D. "Bucky" and Loy Ann Carroll and was the oldest of four children.
He graduated from Olive High School and began working in the oil industry as a pumper, as his grandpa R.F. "Bob" Carroll had done. Rod always said being a pumper was his favorite job, followed by his food truck business with Green Country Catering. At a very young age, Rod was enraptured with horses. His first horse was 'ol Jockey Boy, a Shelton pony Rod would ride every day until sunset. He began his Rodeo Career at age five when he rode a racehorse named "Tag." If Rod could get Tag turned around the first barrel, they'd win; if not, they'd take a lap around the arena and wave to the crowd. Throughout Rod's youth, his talent for horsemanship and rodeo grew. He was an Oklahoma Junior Rodeo Association member, where he roped on a horse named Okie Bob. He was among the youngest invited to the annual Ben Johnson Steer Roping. Later in his rodeo career, he became a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association and performed on the most prestigious rodeo stage, Cheyenne Frontier Days, otherwise known as The Daddy of 'em all. Rod traveled all over the country with a close-knit group of friends, and many admired "The Carroll Boys" for their ability to make a great calf horse.
As much as Rod loved to "hit the dusty," his love for his wife and children never wavered. He called Kathy Crow for the first time on November 11, 1981, and proposed just three weeks later. Kathy and Rod were married for thirty-nine years, and "Katherine," as only Rod called her, was his best friend. They had two children, Katie and Blaine. Rodeoing across the country eventually turned into taking Katie to play softball and helping Blaine become a top-notch calf-roper and horseman. Besides being a dad, Rod's biggest thrill was becoming a PawPaw. His grandsons, Wyatt Blaine, and Waylon James, were his best buddies, always on Rod's heels.
Rod was preceded in death by his father: R.D. "Bucky" Carroll; & paternal grandparents: R.F. & Edith Carroll.
He is survived by his wife: Katherine Carroll; his mother: Loy Ann Carroll; daughter: Katie Carroll-Wilson and husband Josh; son: Blaine Carroll and wife Taylor; grandchildren: Wyatt Blaine McLintock Applegate, Waylon James Wilson, & Adelyn Chenoa Wilson; sister: Leigh Ann Miracle; brothers: Jay Carroll and Paul Carroll; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
