GROVE, Okla. — Harold Leroy Copeland, formerly of Grove, Okla. and Kansas City, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012.
Harold was born on Oct. 25, 1920, in Commerce, Okla., to Roy Jennings and Ella Francis (Mink) Copeland. He graduated from Baxter Springs High School, after serving 18 months in the Farlington, Kan., CCC Camp. He joined the US Navy in 1942, and served in the South Pacific during WW II and later in the Navy Reserve as a Chief Petty Officer.
Harold married Zelma Jane Hanna on Jan. 17, 1942. After the war the family moved to Kansas City where he owned and operated Acme Plating Corporation for 30 years. Harold retired to Grove,Okla., in 1976, and worked for the Grand Lake Association. He was an active member of the Moose Lodge where he served as Governor for one term, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Grove Veterans Ritual Team, and the American Legion. He was an avid sportsman and Mason.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, of 53 years Zelma; and special daughter, Deborah June Copeland.
He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Jane Henry and her husband, James of Kansas City and Susan Kay Herrell of Arma, Kan.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Louise Crane of Lowell, Kan.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. preceding the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at the Cooper Memorial Chapel in the Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami, Okla., with the Pastor Vance Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Williams Timberhill Cemetery, military rites will be provided by the Grove Veterans Ritual Team.
Casketbearers will be Bill Henry, Adam Henry, Michael Henry, Duane Crane, Dale Crane and Don Underwood.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Grove Veterans Ritual Team, 30721 S. 563 RD, Afton, Okla. 74331
