Linda DeAnn McAuliffe, 70, retired educator and Dewey resident, died Thursday in Bartlesville.
Linda was born the daughter of A.D. & Marie (Casto) Rucker on May 1, 1947, in Vinita, OK. She was raised and educated in the White Oak & Bluejacket schools, graduating with the Class of 1965. During her school days, she was very active in 4-H club, showing livestock, and enjoyed playing basketball. Linda first attended NEO A&M for two years before transferring to Northeastern State for a double major in education and physical education. Linda's first teaching position was in Wann, from there she went on to Dewey. Linda recalled many fond memories over the years of people in these towns and formed special friendships with so many. She retired from Dewey Public Schools after 36 years of teaching, mostly second grade students.
Over forty years ago, Linda married Mike McAuliffe on Jan. 22, 1977, in Vinita. They spent all their years living in Bartlesville and Dewey. She was a member of the Dewey United Methodist Church. Her passions in life revolved around her family and the great outdoors. She loved horses and working with them. But most of all she loved reconnecting with her former students and catching up with their lives. “Mrs. McAuliffe“ touched the hearts and minds of so many young children and will be dearly missed.
Linda is survived by her loving husband Mike of the home; one son Casey McAuliffe and Brittany, grandchildren Dalton, Wyatt and Jazzlynn; stepson Chris McAuliffe and Gayla and their children, Molly, Matt, Daniel, Adriana and Cole; sister Kathy Wood and Jeff, and their daughters Laura and Jenny wood. She is preceded in death by her parents, step grandson Aaron McAuliffe, step son Patrick McAuliffe and grandparents Fred and Bess Rucker, and Frank and Mae Casto.
