Sherry Kay (Walker) Smith, 70, of Vinita, Oklahoma went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 29, 2026.
Sherry was born on June 5, 1956, in Vinita, to Lewis and Wanda Walker. She dedicated much of her working life to serving others through the healthcare and restaurant service industries, where her caring nature and strong work ethic touched many lives.
A faithful member of White Oak Baptist Church, Sherry loved her church family and especially enjoyed church dinners, fellowship, and spending time with those she loved. She previously volunteered at Craig General Hospital, demonstrating her lifelong desire to help others. Sherry had a kind and compassionate heart, especially when it came to children. She was generous with both her time and resources, always willing to support worthy causes and lend a helping hand.
Above all, Sherry cherished her family. She found great joy in family gatherings and treasured every opportunity to create lasting memories with those she loved.
Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Walker; her paternal grandparents, Charles and Luella Walker; and her maternal grandparents, Bid and Lela Lay.
She is survived by her mother, Wanda Walker; her devoted husband, Charlie Smith; her daughter, Wendy Weaver (James Hill); her son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Ashton Hopkins; and her beloved grandchildren, Nathan Weaver, Brenlee Hopkins, and Brayden Hopkins. She is also survived by her sisters, Cindy Victory and husband, Clark and Amy DeVore and husband Roger, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Though her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in the promise that Sherry is now at peace in the presence of Jesus Christ. Her legacy of faith, kindness, generosity, and love for her family will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2026, in the Burckhalter-Highsmith Chapel from 5-7 pm. Services are set for 10:00 am Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at White Oak Baptist Church with Leland Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow at Scott Cemetery, Vinita, OK.
Services are under the care of Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral & Cremation Services, “Vinita’s only locally family owned and operated funeral home”.
