Nowata - Iris Dean Martin, 85, of Nowata, passed from this life on Saturday, June 28, 2021, at her home with family at her side. She was born to Oce and Ora (Peace) Mayhew on April 23, 1936, in Nowata, Oklahoma. Iris came from a large family being one of sixteen children in the family. She attended Madden High School in Lighting Creek, Oklahoma. On August 9, 1953, Iris married the love of her life, Jessie Martin Jr.. They made their home in Nowata and raised five children. Iris always looked forward to go and visit her sister in Witchita. In her spare time, she had passion for hobbies including maintaining the flower bed, cooking, intertaining the family and spoiling the grandkids. She loved all of her family unconditionally and had a special place in her heart for all of them. She will be miss by her many friends and family.
Mrs. Martin is preceded in death by her husband Jessie Martin Jr.; parents, Oce and Ora Mayhew; siblings, Oce Mayhew Jr., Oscar Mayhew, Wilford Mayhew, Wendell Mayhew, Edgar Mayhew and Alleta Mayhew.
She is survived by her children, Darlene Hubbard and husband Keith of Nowata, Gary Martin and wife Candice of Terrell, Texas, Lavester Martin of Forney, Texas, Dale Martin of Denver, Colorado, Damon Martin Sr. of Midlothion, Texas; eleven great grandchildren; siblings, Leota Williams, Doris Thomas, Bonnie Hubbard, Janet Mayhew- Owen, Earlene Mayhew, Edgar Mayhew, Raynard Mayhew, Bobby Mayhew, Fredrick Mayhew, Larry Mayhew; nine grandchildren, Michael Saxton, Rayland Martin, Ischara Martin, Kavarie Martin, Noah Martin, Maurice Martin, Brandon Martin, Damon Martin Jr., many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Iris Martin will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the New Life Assembly of God Nowata, OK, with Rev. Anthony Nash officiating. Burial will follow at the Ross Manley Cemetery, Craig County Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Services in Nowata, Oklahoma.
