Zula Mae Davis, 99, passed away on January 13, 2025, in Vinita, Oklahoma. Mae was born March 29,1925, in Gramercy, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Herman Joseph and Mamie (Rodriguez) Decareaux.
She grew up in Gramercy and later moved to New Orleans, Louisiana to work at the Roosevelt Hotel. She would boast about serving movie stars at the hotel. She married Roger Davis, and they had two children before moving to Vinita, Oklahoma where their third child was born. She was a homemaker until her children were raised. She was employed at the White Oak School, and Eastern State Hospital. She was a devout Catholic and regularly attended church at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Vinita. Mae was like a magnet; people were attracted to her. They thought she was very sweet, cute, and fun loving. She had that zest for life. People liked being in her presence. Mae will be missed by all who knew her.
Mae is survived by her daughter Judy Gates and husband Steve, of Pryor, Ok.; son Rod Davis, of White Oak, Ok.; grandchildren, Varina and husband Phil Paone, Brandon Davis and wife Tanya, Melissa Davis, Crissy Stanley, Tara Davis, Jesse Gates and wife Faith, Megan Davis, and Rod Davis Jr.; great grandchildren, Bailey Davis, Dakota Davis, Trinity Davis, Kaden Stanley, Buck Davis, Makenna Davis, Wesley Gates, Tenley Gates, Alyssa Davis, Austin Davis, and J.C. Southerland; Great-great grandchildren, Chevelle Davis, Buck James Davis, Holden Bishop; many other family and a host of friends.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; her husband, Roger Davis; son, Buck Davis; and daughter-in-laws Cindy Davis, and Joyce Davis.
Mom, Mama, Aunt Mae, you were loved by us all, and you will be severely missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 am, Thursday, January 16, 2025,
at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. Interment will follow at Ketchum
Cemetery, Ketchum, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be left at
