Shirley (nee Darnell) Tucker Gaut was called to be with the Lord on October 9, 2024. She was born on March 12, 1936, to Jewell and Elsie (Bristow) Darnell in Vinita. Her life was richly filled with love and fullness of life. Shirley deeply loved and was greatly devoted to the Lord studying His scriptures daily and faithfully attending and working in church. She married the love of her life, Johnny Eubert Tucker on October 6, 1952, in Merced, California. Early in their young married lives, Shirley worked for Munsingwear, then later Sequoyah Industries. Later, She and Eubert opened the Tucker Auto Body Shop on North Miller Street. Eubert and Shirley were inseparable in all they did throughout their lives in work, play, family activities, and particularly in their church activities. Truly dedicated and devoted in their love for one another, they provided a wonderful and warm family life for themselves and their children.
The family includes, her daughter Laquita and son in law Gary Lane of Grove; her son and daughter in-law, Eubert Jr. and Tiana Tucker of Vinita; three grandchildren, Kimberley (Tim) Williams of Leavenworth, KS; Tabitha (Steve) Sabins, of Morgantown, WV; and Marshall Tucker of Tahlequah; five great grandchildren, Aaron and Reagan Williams, Charlee and Tucker Sabins, and Evelyn Tucker; sister, Anita Hoover of Coarsegold, California.
Shirley was also preceded in death by her parents, Jewell and Elsie Darnell, husband Johnny Eubert Tucker, sisters, Juanita and Oleta, and a brother, J. D.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the Burckhalter-Highsmith Chapel in Vinita.
The graveside service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, with Pastor Kevin Baker officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita. “Vinita’s only locally owned and operated funeral home.”
