Johnnie Allen Schwartz, 88, of Vinita, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Heartsworth Senior Living Care Center in Vinita.
Born on April 25, 1938, in Vinita to Albert Benjamin Schwartz and Esther Ella (Chamberlain) Schwartz, Johnnie was a lifelong Craig County resident whose life became a fixture in Vinita - raising a family, serving his neighbors, fixing what was broken, and leaving things better than he found them.
He attended Pheasant Hill School through the eighth grade before completing his high school education at Sacred Heart Academy in Vinita, graduating in 1956.
On June 4, 1957, he married the love of his life, Mona Sue Tucker, at First Assembly of God Church in Vinita. Together they built a life marked by perseverance, laughter, and unwavering commitment to family. Their marriage was the kind of love story that shaped generations, teaching their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren what friendship and devotion truly look like. While the family mourns Johnnie’s passing, they are deeply grateful knowing that after time apart, he and Mona are together again. One can only imagine the joy of that heavenly reunion.
Johnnie believed in hard work; not as a virtue to be talked about, but as a way of life to be lived. He worked for Vinita Tire and Appliance from 1957 to 1967 before beginning a career with B.F. Goodrich in Miami in October 1967, where he remained until April 1978. Never one to sit still or shy away from a challenge, he then started his own appliance repair business and became affectionately known throughout the area as Vinita’s “Mr. Fix It.”
Whether repairing an appliance, helping a neighbor, or tackling a problem that others had given up on, Johnnie approached every task with determination and skill. He never met a machine he couldn’t figure out. For decades, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike brought him things they thought were beyond repair, and more often than not, he handed them back working. He was a man of rare integrity - steadfast in his word, dependable in every season, and generous with both his time and talents.
Yet those who knew him best will remember so much more than his work ethic. They’ll remember the twinkle in his eye and the sweet chortle that often accompanied a good-natured teasing that left everyone smiling. His humor was warm and genuine, reflecting the tenderness that lived beneath his strong exterior.
His greatest legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply. Through his example, he instilled the values of hard work, humility, faithfulness, and humor in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The lessons he taught were often simple but lasting: do the job right, keep your word, help people when you can, and never lose your ability to laugh.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mona Sue (Tucker) Schwartz; his parents, Albert and Esther (Chamberlain) Schwartz; his brothers, A.R. "Buddy" Schwartz, Joe Schwartz, and James Schwartz; and his sisters, Loyce Anderson, Sue Lay, and Cleta Schwartz.
He is survived by his daughter, Melinda Albritton and husband George of Vinita; brothers, George Schwartz of Mustang, Oklahoma, and Larry Schwartz and wife Jan of Hiram, Georgia; grandchildren, Angela Moore and husband Ryan, and Andrew Albritton and wife Laura; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Addison Moore; numerous other relatives; and many treasured friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Vinita Community Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Vinita Community Church with Pastor John Arthur officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.
Casket bearers will be Dewey Tucker, Duane Tucker, Riley Bingham, Eubert Tucker, Matt Schwartz, and Bryan Lay. Honorary bearers will be Anthony Reiss and Mark Bingham.
Though he could fix almost anything, the ache of those who love him is one thing he cannot repair. Still, his legacy endures: in every lesson passed down, every story retold, every laugh shared, and every job done with care. A life marked by integrity, hard work, tenderness, and love leaves a lasting imprint, and Johnnie’s is one that will not be forgotten.
