Jewell Ann (Humble) Morgan

Jewell Ann (Humble) Morgan
July 5, 1940 ~ November 15, 2024

Jewell Ann (Humble) Morgan, 84-year-old well-known Vinita resident, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, at her home. She was born on July 5, 1940, in Los Angeles, California to James Franklin Humble and Roberta Ruth (Lacey) Humble. Jewell grew up in Vinita and graduated from Vinita High School in 1958. She continued her education at NEO A & M College in Miami, where she was a proud member of the NEO Norse Stars dance team. On March 20, 1960, she married Willis Eugene “Bill” Morgan at the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Vinita.

Jewell began her career working at Pilgrim Presbyterian Church as the office secretary. Soon after, she worked in the Vinita School system for about 12 years, including Will Rogers Elementary and Vinita High School. Jewell then moved to the Oklahoma State Bank where she worked for over 20 years and served as Assistant Cashier and Marketing Manager. After her years of working at the bank, she returned to Pilgrim Presbyterian Church as the administrative assistant as well as other capacities.

Jewell loved ELVIS, going to the theater, concerts, out to eat with her friends, movies, and being Meme to her grandchildren. Family celebrations were her favorite times, where everyone enjoyed her famous brisket, world-famous carrot cake and infectious laughter. She was fun, funny, kind, full of joy, and will live on in every life she touched.

She was involved in numerous civic activities, including Vinita Chamber Board, Tourism Committee, PEO, Leadership Class IV, Vinita Library Board, Co-Chair Red Feather Board, Craig County Cancer Outreach, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Sunday School teacher, Vinnie Ream activities committee, class reunions, Camp Fire Girls Leader, and other local organizations. Jewell was the longest active member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, where she served in many capacities throughout the years.

Jewell was preceded in death by her parents James and Ruth Humble, her husband Bill Morgan in 1994, and her sister, Jeane (Humble) Martin in 2006.

The family includes her daughter, Shelly Morgan of Broken Arrow, a son, David Morgan of Oklahoma City, grandchildren, Joshua Morgan of Oklahoma City, Jacob and Jared Morgan of Durant, special friends, Robin and Lester Davis, numerous other relatives, and many friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to ViaLife Hospice for their exceptional care of Jewell.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the Vinnie Ream Cultural Center, 1100 West Canadian Ave, Vinita, OK 74301.

The celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Vinita. Pastor Ken Bailey will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Martin, Leon Martin, Steve Hiller, Sam Hiller, Max Hiller, John Carl Morgan, Lester Davis and Bow Bailey. Online condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on the funeral home Facebook page. Arrangements are in the care of the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita. “Vinita’s only locally owned and operated funeral home.”
