Jimmy Lee “Jim” Finnell, 89-year-old well known Vinita resident, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the Heartsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vinita. He was born on September 6, 1934, in Big Cabin to Elmer O. and Emma L. (Clevenger) Finnell. Jim was a 1952 graduate of Big Cabin High School. He married the love of his life Janeil F. (Burch) Finnell on November 14, 1964. They made their home in Vinita and were part of the community all their married life. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was a member of the Signal Corp stationed in Germany. He retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation after 35 years of service. Jim enjoyed rodeos and roping’s, visiting with his friends at the coffee shop, all sports especially football, going sightseeing in the car with Karesha, playing dominoes on Friday nights, reading the Vinita Daily Journal, and collecting Western Horseman Magazines. Jim attended Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita. He was also a past Grand Marshall of the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo Parade.
He was preceded in death by his wife Janeil on October 12, 2020, his parents, siblings, Omer Finnell, Vernon Finnell, and Lula Walker.
The family includes his daughter Karesha Huddleston and husband Scott of Vinita, grandchildren, Emmalee and Jarrett Huddleston of Vinita, numerous other family members and a multitude of friends.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the Burckhalter-Highsmith Chapel in Vinita.
The celebration of life will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Burckhalter-Highsmith Chapel, with Pastor Skip McClain officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Online condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on the funeral home Facebook page.
