Lyda Marie Gilbert passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at her home in Vinita, OK. She was born on November 27, 1942, in Vinita, OK to Thomas and Ada (Allen) Kirby. Marie was baptized as a teenager at the Vinita Church of Christ.
She attended grade school at Carselowey Community School and graduated from High School in 1960 from Vinita High School. Marie then attended Draughn’s Business School in Tulsa and in January of 1961, she went to work at Craig County Court House.
She met and married Alfred Gilbert in June of 1961. They traveled a lot for three years to five different Air Force Bases and finally settled in Georgia. Three of their children were born in Georgia.
In January of 1970, the family moved to Coffeyville, KS where they had a cabinet shop. They had their fourth child there. In 1974, they moved to Broken Arrow and lived for eight years. In 1981, they built their home on the Kirby farm. Marie enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
She worked for four and a half years at Home of Hope. Marie divorced in 2000 and went to work at First National Bank for eleven and a half years before retirement.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ada (Allen) Kirby; two sisters, Jo Miller, Hazel Carr; two brothers, Richard Kirby, Frank Kirby; two great-granddaughters, Angelina Marie Nix and Oaklynn Lee Grace Nance.
Marie is survived by daughter, Alice Brown of Inola; three sons, Walter (Jeannie), Tommy, Billy Gilbert all of Vinita; sister Mary Ann McKnight and husband Robert of Ketchum; grandchildren, Brooke, Brandon, Walter JR, Amber, Dawn, Kash, Nancy, Kaily, Bo; great-grandchildren, Cayden, Noah Sydney, Gabe, Zoey, Mila, Logan, Sawyer along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Graveside services are set for Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Carselowey Cemetery with Ken Gerheart officiating.
