Elsie Marie (Pitzer) Johnson

November 28, 1921 ~ February 12, 2010

Elsie Marie Pitzer Johnson, of Kildare, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Ponca City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Elsie was 88 years young.

Elsie was born on November 28, 1921 to Pheoba Ellen Punches Pitzer and Joseph Chris Pitzer in Osage County south of the McCord School in an area known as River Road. She attended Peters, Pawhee and Braden elementary schools and attended Burbank High School as well.

She married Melvin Levi Johnson on December 4, 1939. They lived for a time in Vinita, Oklahoma, El Paso, Texas and Ponca City, Oklahoma until settling in Kildare for 49 years. She was an active member and received a plaque for 39 years of service with the Kildare Homemakers Club. She was also a member of the Kildare Baptist Church and while unable to attend church every Sunday in later years she still shared her Great Faith in the Lord. Elsie worked part time at Kildare Post Office and in the cafeteria at the Kildare School. Her greatest joy though was her family. She loved to crochet and even made afghans for all her granddaughters. Elsie was a great cook and enjoyed making Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. In 2007 she put together a cookbook Grandma Elsies Favorite Recipes for all her family to enjoy.

Elsie leaves her legacy, love and memories to one daughter, Linda Meyer and husband, Duane of Ponca City, two sons, Arley and wife, Bonnie of Ponca City and Arthur and wife, Barbara of Drumright granddaughters, Dawn Johnson and Doug Hubbard of Frisco, Texas, Tamara Bales and husband, Don of Kildare, Alicia Johnson of Little Elm, Texas, Cassie Johnson of Ponca City and Wendi Perry and husband, Scott of Jacksonville, Arkansas grandsons, Stephen Casey Johnson and wife, Susan of Long Beach, California, Cash Johnson and wife, Theresa Vann of Cypress, California, Chad Meyer and wife, Lindsey of Statesboro, Georgia and Nick Johnson of Ponca City eight greatgrandchildren, Pheoba, Elizabeth, Jamie and Sarah Bales, Connor and Mallory Meyer and Courtney and Brandon Perry. She also leaves her love and memories to her loving dear friends and neighbors, Amy Horinek, husband Steve and daughter Alena.

Her husband Melvin, one son, Allen Ray Johnson in 1982, one grandson, Scott Meyer, parents and one brother, Henry Pitzer, precede Elsie in death.

Casket bearers for the service will be grandsons, Stephen Casey Johnson, Cash Johnson, Nick Johnson, Chad Meyer along with Steve Horinek and Jim Graves. Honorary casket bearers will be granddaughters, Alicia Johnson, Dawn Johnson, Tamara Bales, Cassie Johnson, Wendi Perry and Lindsey Meyer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kildare Baptist Church, co Dennis Meloy, 900 W. 7th, Newkirk, Oklahoma 74647.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City with Reverends Guy Fox and Gerald Graber officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 pm at the Blue Jacket Cemetery in Blue Jacket, Oklahoma under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
