Roberta G. (Mann) Charles, 74-year-old Vinita resident, passed away Sunday morning, October 13, 2024, in Vinita. She was born on May 13, 1950, in Vinita to Robert and Vera (Rathjen) Mann. Roberta was raised and educated in Vinita, graduating in 1968 from Vinita High School. She was married to Ronald Lee Willis (deceased), and they had a son Ronald Lee Willis, Jr. Roberta enlisted in the United States Air Force and obtained several degrees. She received her associate in arts from Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California, bachelor’s in arts from Chapman College, and master’s in human relations from the University of Oklahoma. She was a Certified Alcohol/Drug Abuse Counselor for Grand Lake Mental Health for 15 years. Roberta married James “J L” Charles after her return to Vinita, Roberta and JL adopted Kailyn Charles as a baby. Kailyn was the love of Roberta’s life.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert and Vera Mann, sisters, Virginia Smith and Doris Goforth, and a niece, Michelle Ebardt.

The family includes her husband JL, son, Ronald Willis, Jr., daughter, Kailyn Charles, grandchildren, Katlyn and Ashlyn Willis, step-children, Kary Charles of Vinita, Dr. Larry Charles and wife Dr. Dawn Charles of Edmond, Kelly and Mikal Charles of Rogers, special nieces, Kristina Ruberstell, and Skyla Thomas, sisters, Flora McCabe and Jennie Willis, numerous other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral Home in Vinita.

The graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Big Cabin Cemetery, Pastor Robert Sanders will officiate. Online condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on the funeral home Facebook page. Arrangements are in the care of the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita. “Vinita’s only locally owned and operated funeral home.”
