Darel Ray Blum

August 6, 1938 ~ December 28, 2021

Darel Ray Blum was born August 6, 1938 in rural Nowata County Oklahoma. He was educated in the Nowata school system and was very involved in FFA winning honors in cattle showmanship and land judging. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard, Thunderbird Division. After graduating from Nowata High School he joined the Navy and was deployed to the far east Pacific fleet. After his honorable discharge as a radar specialist, was recruited by Beckman Instruments in Southern California. He retired after 35 years from this only job. He married Charlene Meyer of Walters Oklahoma in 1965 and they made their home in Anaheim California. While planning a retirement home in North Las Vegas Nevada, Charlene tragically died just before the move and their 30th anniversary. He made his residence in Las Vegas and married Koleta Hawkins. They were married 24 years. Darel lived a very full life with his Catholic faith being the center of his existence. He died peacefully at home December 28, 2021, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Roselyne Blum, Sister, Donna Ilene Steiner, and brother Robert Eugene Blum. He is survived by wife Koleta of the home, brother David (Janet) Blum, Tulsa, Oklahoma and many step children, step grand and great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian burial was held in Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church January 21, 2022. A rosary will be at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Nowata, Oklahoma February 7, 2022 at 7:00 pm followed by a Mass of Christian burial on February 8, 2022 at 12:00 pm. Graveside services will be in the Temple Oklahoma cemetery on February 9, 2022 at 1:30 pm. Instead of flowers, the family request donations to the above stated churches or St. Patrick's Catholic church, Walters Oklahoma.
