© Whinery~Huddleston Funeral Service Lawton, Oklahoma September 05, 2016 William Wayne Stephens July 07, 1929 September 05, 2016 William Wayne Stephens was born July 7, 1929 in Velma, OK to W.O. and Elva Lee [Smith] Stephens. He passed away September 5, 2016 at the age of 87. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 3pm-8pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 9, 2016 at 2:30pm in the Whinery-Huddleston Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. William was raised and attended school in the Velma area. He worked in the oil field until the Korean War, when he was drafted into the United States Air Force. He served in the Air Force from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1955. He returned to work in the oil field for a short time before going to work for the Post Office, where he worked for 32 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. William was also a life member of the VFW at Large and a member of the American Legion Post 29. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; son; one brother; and brother-in-law. Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Kendrick and husband Charles of Lawton; grandson, Jonathan Perkins and his daughter Adrian of Lawton; grandson, Brandon Perkins, his wife Elizabeth, and their daughter Sadie of Lawton; grandson, Ryan Kendrick; granddaughter, Denise Morales and husband Gil and their children, Mylee and Ellee of Hawaii; brother, Wendell Stephens and wife Sue of Stillwater; sister, Wynell Rickey of Midland, TX; long-time family friend, Louise Nix. |
