Marilyn J. Roney was born April 19, 1935 in Tolono, Illinois to Delmar and Blanche [Moore] Welch. She passed away February 28, 2013 at a local hospital surrounded by family and friends at her side in Lawton, Oklahoma; she was 77 years of age.Marilyn attended school in Illinois.
She met Donald W. Roney in 1952 while working at the Robinson Department store in Champaign, Illinois. They were married on August 18, 1953 in Sadorus, Illinois;
Donald died in 1998. She followed her husband when he was transferred to Lawton when he worked as a lineman for PSO. She acquired her realtor's license in 1973. Marilyn enjoyed working for Campbell and Associates for many years.
She enjoyed cooking for her family and was widely known for her pecan pie. She also liked to crochet. Her favorite was making baby blankets; every baby born into the Roney family was sure to be given a baby blanket from grandma.
She has been a member of Eastern Star since she was eighteen. She was a member of the Lawton chapter 82 and after 59 years she has held every office and many twice.
Marilyn and Donald were Red Cross Volunteers since 1993 as active members until her husband's death.
She was preceded in death by husband, Donald W. Roney, daughter, Teena Marie Ray, grandson, Anthony Roney, great granddaughter, Emry Roney, both parents, Delmar and Blanche Welch, two brothers, Billy Welch and Jim Welch, a sister, Vida Lou Welch, a brother-in-law, James Roney and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Reed.
She is survived by her two sons, Donald Roney and wife Cathy of Trimble, MO; Edward Roney and wife Robin of Caldwell, ID; a daughter, Cindy Floyd and husband Randy of Lawton, OK; fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Welch and wife Marian of Battle creek, MI; three sisters, Carol Compton and husband Orville of Lawndale, NC; Sara Headley and husband Gary of Interlachen, FL; Pamela Connor and husband Ron of Plant City, FL; and also has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
