Gennevie [Baxter] Pharris

Graveside service for Gennevie Phariss, 79, of Lawton, will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Phariss died on Saturday, September 5th, 2009 at Lawton, Oklahoma.

Burial is under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Gennevie was born on July 16, 1930 to James W. and Margaret N. [Fellows] Baxter in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

She attended local schools in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She played basketball and softball for Meridian High School where she graduated.

She married Reginald R. Phariss on May 28, 1947, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

She attended LPN school at Comanche County Memorial, graduating in 1970. She worked as a surgical scrub nurse from 1971 until 1981 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Timothy A. Phariss, of San Diego, California; her daughters, Lesa Ann Vorpagel, of Lawton, Cynthia Nell Callahan, of Lawton, Emily Kay Fistler, of Lawton, Paula Lynn LaFlash, Jr., of Arlington, Texas, and Regina Hayes, of Fort Worth, Texas; her brother, James W. Baxter, Jr. of Guthrie, Oklahoma; her sisters, Joyce Alexander, of Nicoma Park, Oklahoma, Jean Whitener, of Coalgate, Oklahoma, and Frances Whitener, of Crane, Missouri, fifteen grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Phariss was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret Baxter, her husband, Reginald R. Phariss, her sisters, Seltha Thompson, Naomi Baxter, Nettie Lee Stiffler, and her brother Harry Baxter.
