Mary Alma [Belcher] McKelvey

Mary Alma Belcher McKelvey "Mema", age 98, formerly of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016, at her home in Converse, Texas. Mary was born on April 2, 1918, in Talco, Texas.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Whinery Huddleston Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Jim Mercado officiating. Burial will be beside her husband following the services at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mary was the youngest of five daughters born to Jesse A. and Mary Clyde Flanagan Belcher. She is the last member of the Jesse Belcher family.

She graduated from Talco High School in 1938 and came to Lawton to work for Fairmont Foods Company.

She married Carl McKelvey on December 20, 1941 in Walters, Oklahoma. They adopted four children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Mary Esther Belcher, Callie Belcher, Anna Bell Salazar and Jesse Lee Belcher; two half-brothers-Warren H. Belcher and Billy G. Belcher; one half-sister Lorene Walters; one son Bobby McKelvey; one daughter Barbara Pearson; one granddaughter Sandra Pearson.

She is survived by two daughters: Mary Elizabeth Carson and her husband Daniel of Converse, Texas and Loretta McKelvey of Lawton, Oklahoma and a son-in-law Charles Pearson, Council Bluff, Iowa. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Marty McKelvey, Kimberly McKelvey, Jennifer Johnson, Jeffrey Strobl, Christopher Carson, Makayla Carson and Alma Ann Carson plus numerous great-grandchildren and friends.
