Sonia Oliver-Martinez

Sonia Oliver-Martinez was born April 4, 1939 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico to Filomena [Rivera] and Fernando Oliver. She died at a local hospital on January 10, 2014 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel officiated by Pastor Taynna Cabrera. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service. Visitation will be 6-7 PM; a prayer service will be 7-8 PM Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the funeral home.

She grew up with her family in San Juan Puerto Rico, and at the age of thirteen she moved to Brooklyn, New York with her family.

She met Luis Felipe Martinez when she was eighteen. They were married in New York when she was twenty-one. He died on October 20, 2009.

She had a great love for her Savior; she was always studying her Bible and was always thrilled to share the knowledge and her faith. She was a great prayer warrior and was always available to pray for anyone who needed prayers.

She was also a great cook and loved to have company. Anyone who came by to visit was always offered a seat at her dinner table.

She was a member of Church of God "Vasijas de Honra".

She was preceded in death by husband, Luis Felipe Martinez; both parents, Fennando and Filomena Oliver.

She is survived by her two sons, David Martinez, of Cache and Luis Martinez and his wife Lisa, of Lawton; six grandchildren, Jamie D Martinez and his fiancee Kirstan, of Lawton, Sonia E Martinez, of Elgin, David N Martinez, of Cache, Brittany M. Martinez-Maniscalco and her husband Raymond, of Florida and Christian M Shoemate, of Lawton; four great grandchildren, Kaiden G Martinez, of Lawton, Austyn R Martinez, of Elgin, James A Maniscalco and Raymond Maniscalco, both of Florida; two brothers, Geraldo Rivera and his wife Elsa M, of Cache and Gene Rivera and his wife Toni, of Clarksville, TN.

Visitation:
6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel 6210 NW Cache Road Lawton Oklahoma 73505

7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel 6210 NW Cache Road Lawton Oklahoma 73505
