Dorothy L. [Jones] Maricle

Funeral for Dorothy L. Maricle age 86 of Chickasha, will be at 10 a.m., Monday, June 18, 2007, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel.

Born on January 7, 1921, at Pawnee, Oklahoma, she was the eldest daughter of Osie Willard Jones and Marcia Iola Dawson Jones. She died June 14, 2007, in Chickasha.

Dorothy attended school in Pawnee and graduated from Sentinel High School in 1938. Dorothy attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford for three semesters, then moved to Chickasha with her family where she graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women with a B.S. Degree in 1942. She later returned to O.C.W. and earned another B.S. Degree in 1957 and began teaching English at Chickasha Junior High. In 1967, she moved to Lawton where she taught English at Eisenhower Senior High for 15 years, and retired in 1982. Dorothy earned a Masters of Education as a Reading Specialist from Southwestern State College in 1971. She also did post graduate work in English at the University of Oklahoma.

On March 29, 1942, Dorothy was married to Orson Harry Maricle, Jr., at the Epworth Methodist Church in Chickasha. Mr. Maricle preceded her in death in 1998.

Survivors include her children, Elizabeth Ann Nelson of Chickasha, Sarah Hardy of McCloud, Harriet Fewel of Lancaster, Texas, and John Richard Maricle of North Carolina. Her grandchildren include, Mindy Hall of Middleberg, Chris Nye and Melissa Mabry of Chickasha, Teresa Parr and Dana Hardy of Oklahoma City, Lucy Womack of Arkoma, Oklahoma, Jeffrey Pickens of Garland, Texas, Sean Fewel of New York City and eight great-grandchildren. She is survived by her two sisters, Carol Corley of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Marjorie Nease of Lawton.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.
