Willa G. Crawford


Funeral for Willa G. Crawford, 87, Lawton, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Beal Heights Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Saville, pastor, Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Mrs. Crawford died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Lawton.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Becker Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Beckham County, to Rufus and Della Smith Green. She married Sherman Crawford on June 15, 1941, in Lawton. She died Jan. 13, 2002. She was a graduate of Chattanooga High School and received her master"s degree in English from Southwestern State Teachers College.

She worked for Lawton Public Schools as a literature teacher, and taught at Eisenhower Junior High School when it opened. She later taught at Eisenhower High School when it opened. After her retirement, she worked for Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) in South Carolina schools. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served as choir director there and at Beal Heights Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association, the National Education Association and the Comanche County Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gay and James E. King, Houston; three grandchildren: James E. King Jr. and his wife, Catherine, Buna, Texas; Alex King, Brenham, Texas; and Gaylynn King, Houston; four sisters: Beulah Pascall, Fort Worth, Texas; Dorothy Davis, Lawton; June Scroggins, Grand Junction, Colo.; and Della Marie Owen, Albuquerque, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Goodland Presbyterian Children"s Home in Hugo, or to the Gideons.
