Shepherd services held Funeral services for Dan Shepherd, age 74 of Sterling, were held this morning at the First Baptist Church in Sterling with Rev. Jack Pilgrim, pastor, and Rev. Clarence Shepherd of Clinton officiating.
Shepherd was born July 24, 1932, in Arapaho, the son of Jim and Mabel [Spencer] Shepherd.
He grew up in Arapaho and graduated from Arapaho High School in 1950. He married Raylene [Thurman] in Arapaho on Sept. 11, 1952. Shepherd was self-employed as a farmer and rancher from 1952 until his retirement in 1999.
For several years he served on the Arapaho School Board and was elected to serve on the Comanche County Farm Service Agency Committee in Lawton. He was a church trustee and served on several committees at the First Baptist Church in Sterling.
Interment was held at Sterling Cemetery under the direction of the Hodge Funeral Home in Elgin.
Survivors include his wife, Raylene, of the home; two sons Brad Shepherd and his wife, Bebe, and Greg Shepherd and his wife, Melba, all of Duncan; a daughter, Danette Shepherd of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Danielle and Kaci Shepherd of Stillwater and Derek Shepherd of Laurel, Md.; three sisters, Eva Sprott of Clinton, Betty Jane Hoffman of Custer City and Madelyn Patton of El Reno; and one brother, Wink Shepherd of Fort Cobb.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Dan's honor be made to either the American Heart Association or the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 6, Sterling, OK 73567.
