Jaunita Faye Pointer Ward

Funeral services for Jaunita Faye Ward, 84, Lawton, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday January 16, 2010 at 8th and Lee Church of Christ with Dave Dugan and Zane Copeland officiating.

Burial followed at Highland Cemetery under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

She was born July 6, 1925, in Fletcher, to Clarence R. and Fannie Kelly Pointer and died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, in Lawton.

She grew up near Porter Hill and attended Franklin School, east of Medicine Park, Cache Schools, Stoney Point, west of Porter Hill , and was a 1945 graduate of Elgin High School. She attended Central State Teachers College, Edmond, and Cameron State Agricultural College.

On Jan. 15, 1948, she married Bill Ward in Lawton. They lived for a short while in Madera, Calif., and then the rest of their married life in Lawton.

She taught school at Lakeview, near Lake Lawtonka, for two years and at Lone Jack, southeast of Porter Hill, for one year. She worked as a bookkeeper for Old South Cafeteria in Lawton. She also worked for Lincoln Income Life Insurance Company as a bookkeeper and then office manager before retiring in 1982 after 16 1/2 years.

She was a faithful member of the 8th & Lee Church of Christ for many years, where she served on the Food Committee, taught Bible School, and worked as the church secretary.

When her three children were in school, she served in the PTA and was a homeroom mother every year for every child and always provided transportation for field trips. She loved to cook and won several awards. She loved to garden and raised many vegetables and flowers. She claimed the children of the church as her own, both big and small, and loved them all.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Ward, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Ronnie and Sandy Ward, Duncan; and Donnie and Janice Ward, Lawton; a daughter and son-inlaw, Anita Carol "Sissy" and Jerry Brown, Lawton; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Arnold and Norma Pointer, Reno, Nev.; and Clarence Dale "Jack" and Imogene Pointer, Apache; grandchildren: Chris and Melissa Ward, Owasso; Corey Ward, Duncan; Travis and Janna Montgomery, Oxford, Miss.; Zack Ward, Dallas; Sam and Crislyn Ward, Edmond; Jeremiah and Paige Brown, and Amanda Brown, Lawton; and six great grandchildren: Cassie, Cameron, Caden, Joel, and Candace Ward, Owasso; Braden Brown, Lawton; and one on the way.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Clarence R. and Fannie Pointer; and a brother, Harold Pointer.
