Gerda E. Prather
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 8, 2016 at 10am at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service in Lawton. Gerda E. Prather, 12 September 1934 to 3 August 2016, age 82, died after a month-long illness in her Lawton home.
Born in Stettin Germany during the lead up to WWII, Gerda was raised by her grandmother and aunt until completing her secondary education.
She met her husband, Bill during the early 1960s and had 3 children. After several military tours between Germany and the states, she moved to Brewers, KY in the mid-1970s for several years before settling in Lawton. She worked at Haggar's Slacks.
She returned to Germany for several years in 1985. While there, Gerda worked for another clothing factory and a couple of food establishments around the Aschaffenburg area before permanently returning to Lawton in early 2002. Her last employment was at Furr's Cafeteria in Lawton.
Gerda was a dedicated mother; a faithful Christian; and an amazing homemaker. She was a perfectionist, extroverted, generous and very resilient.
She regularly attended Holy Family Catholic Church. Her survivors include sons, Yergen Stein (Weinheim, Germany), John Prather (Lawton), Robert Prather (Lawton), Ronald Prather (San Antonio, TX) and his wife, Svitlana; and SFC (R) Billie W. Prather (Lawton).
Arrangements are under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service in Lawton.
Concluding service and interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Lawton.
