© Whinery~Huddleston Funeral Service Lawton, Oklahoma January 10, 2015 Alwanda E. Holloway Birth date: July 20, 1925 Death date: November 2, 2014 Mrs. Alwanda E. Young-Holloway, we called her "Kutz", was born July 20, 1925 in Rockyford, Oklahoma. She was the first of seven children born to Richard and Hattie L. Young. She received Christ at an early age at Bethlehem Baptist Church located at First Street and Arlington. Later she joined Greater Galilee Baptist Church where she worshipped and served as an usher until her stroke in March of 2007 under the pastoral care of Rev. James Thornton. Mrs. Halloway received her initial education at Douglass School located on Lawrence and Gore. She furthered her education with a degree and certification in Arts and Crafts and became the Arts and Crafts director of Lawton, Oklahoma. She also worked at E. C. Owens Senior Cititzens facility where she taught arts and crafts to seniors. She retired in June of 1999. She had a passion for what she did and she made beautiful family tree quilts for the Nellum family, our roots, and also beautiful ceramics. She was a member of: The Rising Sun Court # 15 Heronies of Jericho, Eastern Star, American Woodman Camp 22, just to name a few. She and her sister Lillie traveled extensively, traveling to Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, Europe; England, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Brazil, the Caribbean and Mexico, China (Beijing, Singapore and Hong Kong), Korea (Seoul and Pusan), Japan (Tokyo and Singapore) and Thailand (Bangkok), just to name a few. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Young, her mother, Hattie L. Young, four sisters: Nola B. Young, Ella Mae Young, Opal C. Brown and Lillian R. Macon and one brother, Richard M. Young. She leaves to cherish her memories: one sister, Lillie M. Young-Epps of Baltimore, Maryland; five nieces, Richene Macon of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Brenda M. Robinson of Lawton, Oklahoma, Janice M. Epps-Talley of Baltimore, Maryland, Janice Lovelace-Macon of Bothell, Washington and Mari C. Macon of Harrah, Oklahoma, three nephews, Dr. James D. Macon of Bothell, Washington, Richard W. Macon of Harrah, Oklahoma, Anthony Robinson of Lawton, Oklahoma, three great nephews, three great nieces a host of great great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She departed this life on November 2, 2014 at Midwest City Regional Hospital in Midwest City, Oklahoma. She will be truly missed. Rest in peace because your living was not in vain, your works speak for you.
