September 1923 Elizabeth Davidson GRANDMA DAVIDSON DIES AT 113 YEARS Eventful Life of Probably the Oldest Woman in State Comes to Close Mrs. Elizabeth Davidson, known to many as "Grandma" Davidson passed away at 6 o'clock this morning of the home of her son, A. R. Davidson, at Medicine Park, at the advanced age of 113 years and nine months. Had she lived until Christmas Day she would have been 114 years old. Mrs. Davidson was one of the oldest, if not the oldest, women living in Oklahoma today. She has lived an eventful life, spanning a period of time that embraces most of the history of her adpoted country. "Grandma" Davidson leaves many living descendents, including three sons, twenty-two grandchildren, fifty-six great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. The aged woman had been ill for about ten months prior to her death. Previous to that she had been in excellent health and very active. Mrs. Davidson was born in Scotland December 25, 1810. She came to America with her parents when one year old, settling in Wisconsin, where she was married to H. B. Davidson. With her husband she moved shortly after to Tennessee and thence to Texas, where Mr. Davidson died in 1874. Nine children were born to this union. The family continued to live in Texas until they came to Oklahoma in 1900. Mrs. Davidson came to Lawton with the families of her sons A. R. and Gid Davidson at the opening in 1901. She lived in Lawton until 1913, when she moved to Medicine Park with her son, A. R. "Grandma" Davidson, as she was affectionately called by her friends and neighbors, leaves three sons, A. R. and Gid of this county, and Robert of Hillsboro, Texas. She is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren and fifty-six great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren besides a host of friends and neighbors in Lawton and Medicine Park. Funeral services will be held at the residence of her son at Medicine Park Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. N. D. Perkinson, pastor of the Christian church, of which Mrs. Davidson has been a member for over sisty years, will conduct the services. Burial will be made in Highland cemetery with Ritter's in charge of funeral arrangements. Nearly four years ago the Constitution carried a story of Mrs. Davidson casting her first vote at the advanced age of 110 years. Even though well past the century mark Grandma Davidson took on active interest in politics. |
