Walter Olshefsky
December 30, 1931 - December 13, 2017
Walter Ned Olshefsky, known to many friends as "Wally" passed away on December 13, 2017 at the age of 85 years.
Wally's parents immigrated to the US from Poland in 1930. He was then born on December 30, 1931 in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. He and his twin sister Leona were the youngest of seven children. Wally graduated from Shamokin High School in 1950 and subsequently worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was drafted into the US Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War as a radar chief for the Hawk missile system. He had a long, twenty-one-year Army career where he was deployed in Okinawa as well. Wally was honorably discharged as Sergeant First Class on November 1, 1973.
After retirement, Wally continued working as a Civil Servant, maintaining the grounds on Ft. Sill.
Wally was a lover of fixing anything that you could plug in. You could always catch him wearing his signature wide smile and white cowboy hat. Wally made people laugh. He was a devout Christian, dedicated to his church. He loved his family and of course, his favorite pastime, fishing.
Preceded in death by his parents Peter & Magdalan and his brothers and sisters, Peter, Dorothy, Nancy, Francis, Mary and Leona, Wally is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Kisun; son George; daughter Diana; granddaughters Naomi, Carrie, Julie and great grandchildren, Aria, Jackson and Olivia along with many dear friends.
