Santiago Martinez

August 17, 1930 - November 03, 2016

Santiago Curvier Martinez, Lawton, was born August 17, 1930 in Floresville, Texas to Ramon and Natividad Martinez. He passed away peacefully on November 3, 2016 at the age of 86. A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 4pm-8pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 1:00pm in the Whinery-Huddleston Chapel. Interment with full military honors will follow at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.
During his military career, Santiago earned many awards and decorations to include: Good Conduct Medal with second Award; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Expert Rifle. He was very proud to be a soldier and loved his military career. “Papa, you chose to be our dad and grandpa and for that we are eternally grateful. You will be missed so much for your kindness and love that you so joyfully shared with us. We will tell you all about it when we see you again!” He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Martinez of Lawton; son, James D. Rogers of Denton, TX; grandson, James E. Cox of Denton, TX; father, Ramon Martinez of San Antonio, TX; and brother, Ernesto Martinez of San Antonio, TX.
Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Long and husband Don of Chattanooga, OK; daughter, Debbie Cox of Slidell, TX: son, Louis Rogers of Bridgeport, TX; daughter, Kimberly Ismail and husband Jeff of Lake Dallas, TX; grandchildren: David, Francisco, Jessica, and Nicholas Santillan; Jordan and Amanda Cox; Sarah, Savannah and Samantha Cox; Lauren Rogers; Sarah and Jeff Pratt and Amelia Pratt; Alexander Fitzherbert; Cody and Caitlin Cox and their mother, Miranda; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brothers and sisters-in-law: Pancho and Soccoro Martinez of San Antonio, TX; Sandy, Gilbert, Gabrielle, Smiley of San Antonio, TX; and special friend, Nellie Gonzalez and family.
