George Bryan Whitehead


George Bryan Whitehead was born January 1, 1941 in Cottonwood, Texas to Frances Emma and Sterling Glen Whitehead. He passed away November 6, 2016 in Loveland, Colorado at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 5 days.

George's family moved to various places during his childhood. During his teenage years he worked with his father in the scrap metal business.

At the age of 17 George joined the Unites States Army and served for over 20 years.

He was married to Jody Petrey on January 2, 1962 in Odessa, Texas. To this union 5 daughters were born: Tina, Amanda, Lora, Wendy and Jennifer.

Also during this time, George served two tours of duty in Germany and two more in Viet Nam. George was honorably discharged a total of three times.

When George retired from his military service he began working for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a track inspector and was loyaly employed for 20 years.

He later married the love of his life, Flo Jean Ford on March 8, 1997 in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

After George retired for a second time, he and Flo Jean made their home in the Cheyenne community until they decided to moved closer to family in Colorado.

George accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on January 12, 1972 and was active in church including singing at nursing homes, working at the clothing closet, very instrumental in organizing the county wide revivals and also singing in the choir.

Having spent many years in the military, George demonstrated his patriotism by placing the United States flag around the Cheyenne community for over 17 years during national holidays.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Joe, Donald, Ed, Billy, and Jerry, 2 sisters, Jean Fletcher, Joan Ingram.

He is survived by his wife, Flo Jean, of the home; 5 daughters, Tina Murphy and husband, Kevin, Grapevine, TX, Amanda Sears, Woodward, OK, Lora Riley, Wichita Falls, TX, Wendy Cunningham and husband, John Wayne, Sterling, OK, Jennifer Whitehead, Lawton, OK; 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 brother, James Whitehead and wife, Ginger, Neches, TX; 4 sisters, June Fletcher and husband, Robert, Lubbock, TX, Janie Smith, Plano, TX, Ada Smith, Irving, TX, Julia Adams and husband, Robert, Lubbock, TX; 1 step daughter, Sharon Daniel and husband, William, Edmond, OK; 2 step-sons, Ryan Reed and wife, Missy, Greeley, CO and Bradley Reed, Hollywood, CA; 12 step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
