Henry Wells

Henry Wells was born on November 2, 1933 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Mose and Willie Wells. He died at Memorial Hospital with his family at his side on October 29, 2013 in Lawton, Oklahoma; he was 79 years old.

Mr. Wells married his high school sweetheart in 1952 and he was married for 22 years. In this union he had 4 beautiful children that he loved for life.

In September 1953 Mr. Wells joined the U.S. Army and served his country for more than 21 years. During this time he traveled all over the world, he had tours in Korea, Germany and Japan not to mention various stateside assignments. He retired from the U.S. Army on May 31, 1974 with an Honorable Discharge.

Upon retirement Henry decided to enter law enforcement for the City of Lawton Police Department in April 1976. He worked in various areas at the police department for another 20 plus years. He received the Civilian Employee of the Year Award in February 1996, from the City of Lawton Police Department. He retired from the Lawton Police Department in May 1996.

Now it was time to relax and enjoy life and that's just what he did. Henry was a very kind and giving person, he would help anyone that would ask or looked like they were in need. He was a family man and loved his family dearly.

He was very close to his brother (Andrew Wells) they would share many stories together about life and growing up in Jonesboro, Arkansas. They didn't forget anything, if one dropped the ball the other could pick it up and keep it going. He was a loving father, a brother, a compassionate and caring grandfather and friend.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, a sister, Helen B. Smith, a wife, Justine I. Wells, a son, Gregory A. Wells, a son-in-law, Anthony A. Smith, two nephews, Eddie Smith and Vernon Smith.

On Tuesday, October 29, 2013 the Lord called Mr. Wells home to rest. He leaves to cherish and mourn his passing; his companion and best friend Arlene, a brother, Andrew Wells of Chicago, Illinois and wife Lois Wells, two daughters, Rosalind W. Smith of Huntsville, Alabama, Ebony Harold of Lawton, Oklahoma and husband Anthony Harold, two sons, Delbert L. Wells of Lawton, Oklahoma and wife Maria Wells and Tony R. Wells of Lawton, Oklahoma, six grand children, Devonte Jones of Wynne, AK, Carson Graham of Wynne, AK, Ashley N. Sparks of Birmingham, Alabama and husband Anthony Sparks, Shavonne Black of Dallas, Texas and husband Michael Edwards, Latoya Doddles of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ebony E. Simpson of Killeen, Texas and Cassie Graham of Wynne, Arkansas, and seven great grand children, Aidan Anthony Sparks of Birmingham, Alabama, Makiyah, Malakhi, Makhi Edwards of Dallas, Texas, Kyvea and Sermesha Doddles of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Nia Simpson of Killeen, Texas. He also had a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.

Viewing with the family in attendance will be Monday, November 4, 2013 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm with a prayer service from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home on 6210 NW Cache Rd, Lawton, OK. Interment to follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery at Elgin, OK at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 5, 2013.
