Purcell, Oklahoma August 18, 2016 John Edward McCarter of Dibble, passed away last Thursday at the age of 67. Johnny was born to James Elwood McCarter and Lillian L. [Brown] McCarter on October 20, 1948, in Washington D. C. Johnny grew up in the Oklahoma City area, graduating from US Grant High School in 1966, after which he joined the US Army. Once he completed the paratrooper training, John spent a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in combat. Upon his discharge, Johnny met and married Kay Dewey Barber in 1971, then moved to Dibble where they raised one daughter, Lisa. John worked as a roofer with J & M Roofing in Oklahoma City, and after 22 years of dedicated service he retired to what he enjoyed doing most, raccoon and deer hunting. Besides playing his guitar and singing, he was an avid gardener and enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his daughter and later grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife and is survived by his daughter Lisa Vinson and her husband Emanuel (Shorty) Vinson of Lindsay, OK; his brother Dick Simmons and wife Gerry of Moore, OK; sister Frances McGraw and husband Stephen of Keenesburg, CO; two grandchildren Meghin and Jenna Vinson; and two great grandchildren Mayson and Jaidyn. Funeral services are at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at the Dibble Free Will Baptist Church in Dibble, Oklahoma. Interrment will be at 2:00 pm, on Tuesday, at Fort Sill National Cemetery, in Elgin, Oklahoma. Arrangements are with Wilson-Little Funeral Home. |
