Rev Richard William "Dick" Law

Rev. Richard W. Law was born in Hutchinson, KS on January 10, 1922, to Harvey and Ella Law, and departed this life on February 5, 2015.

He was converted at 11 years of age at Hutchinson First Nazarene Church. He served as a teacher of a boy's Sunday school class when he was a teenager. He was president of the Hi-N-Y Society.

While attending Bresee College in Hutchinson, Richard met Lucille Meredith. She became his college sweetheart and they were married by Rev. W.D. McGraw on September 7, 1941, at Hutchinson First Nazarene Church.

Richard was a dispatcher for the U.S. Coast Guard Transportation Service during World War II.

He and Lucille were gloriously reclaimed at a Holiness Convention in the Municipal Auditorium in Cleveland, OH. They were later sanctified as a second, definite, instantaneous work of grace.

Knowing they both had a call to the preaching ministry, they enrolled in Bethany-Peniel College in 1946 to prepare. Graduating in 1949, they moved to Kansas City and enrolled in Nazarene Theological Seminary. They were the first couple to graduate who were married when they enrolled and were allowed to graduate together in 1953, receiving the Bachelor of Divinity degree. They later took additional post-graduate work and each received the Master of Divinity degree. Both Richard and Lucille were ordained in 1951 and spent over 24 years in full-time evangelism following pastorates while in Seminary. Richard preached hundreds of times and God honored with thousands of souls seeking the Lord.

In 1977, the Lord led Richard out of evangelism into the State Chaplaincy at the (now) Mack Alford Correctional Center, where he was employed until his retirement in 1986. The ministry of Dick and Lucille was characterized by togetherness. Lucille was his assistant at the prison, and it was there that God gave the most outstanding convert of their entire ministry. Frank Chase, a habitual criminal who had spent 21-22 years in prison and jails across the U.S., was gloriously converted on a Sunday morning after Dick preached in the prison chapel service. Later, he was sanctified after Lucille preached a clear message on entire sanctification. Frank had a definite call to preach and later to be an evangelist. God planned Frank's GREAT ESCAPE, for his prison sentence was for 42 years. Through prayer and fasting, Frank was released and, in 1984, Governor Nigh signed a complete pardon for him from the State of Oklahoma. He held many revivals and God honored his ministry with many seeking the Lord. Frank was ordained on the NW Oklahoma Nazarene District in 1999. Lucille had prayed that if God could see fit, He would make Frank a holiness preacher. Dick and Lucille felt that leading Frank to the Lord was the main reason for the Lord changing their work from full-time evangelism to prison ministry. To God be the Glory! Frank passed away several years ago.

Richard was a member of Bethany First Nazarene Church. He was also a member and an ardent supporter of the Association of Retired Ministers and Missionaries. Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years, Lucille; their two "adopted families" which he loved deeply: Ramona Chase, grandchildren, Laura and John; and Kevin and Judith Turner, grandchildren, Kelsey and Kristin; sister, Darlene Angel of Denton, TX; sisters-in-law, Elsie Law of Hutchinson, KS and song evangelist, Norma Jean Meredith of Harper, KS; and nieces and nephews in Kansas and Texas.

Richard will be greatly missed, but is safe in the arms of Jesus.

Viewing will be Sunday, 11am-9pm, with family present from 2-4pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be Monday, February 9, 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Ft. Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK.
