Rufus Dale Dowdle Rufus Dale Dowdle, 93, 0f OKC passed away November 14, 2015. Rufus was born May 12, 1922 to Rufus and Lilly Dowdle in New Melbourne, AR. Rufus attended Brookwood Baptist Church He enjoyed camping, fishing and taking his sons boating. He also enjoyed working in his yard, listening to stories on tapes, music and watching westerns and the Andy Griffith show. He was a fan of the OKC Thunder and an OU football. Rufus heard his country's call and served in the United States Army during WWII there he received an honorable discharge and a certificate of appreciation from President Henry Thurman for services rendered to his country when he was called upon to do so. Rufus went on to be a police officer for the University of Oklahoma and retired after 22 years of service. Rufus was a calm, funny, loving, and caring person. He was a great story teller and could also tell a funny joke. Rufus's first love was spending time with his wife, Betty, his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Betty Dowdle of the home; 2 children, Tommy Dowdle & Terry Dowdle & wife, Kathy of OKC; 1 sister, Minnie Norton, of Weatherford; 3 grandchildren, Dustin, Tamara, & Kendy. He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kaylynn; brother, Brent, Mose, Elsie Dowdle; sisters, Ina Martin. Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Ft. Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK. |
