Purcell, Oklahoma Sunday, May 1, 2016 Donald Wayne "Don" Cross May 18, 1938 ~ May 1, 2016 Donald Wayne Cross, age 77 of Purcell, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the Brookhaven Extensive Care Center in Norman. Don was born May 18, 1938 in Ringwood, OK. He was one of five children born to Ray and Ethel Cora Cross. Don joined the United States Army and served his country proudly! Don served two tours in the Vietnam War as a proud member of the 101st Air Borne Division, Field Artillery. Don retired at the rank of MSG after a distinguished career of more than 20 years. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Don was a true patriot and showed it by actively recruiting for the United States Army. After his service he returned to the Enid area and began a 2nd career with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. In 1984 he moved to Purcell and began working at Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington. On Oct. 7, 1988 Don married his best friend and true love, Janie Hargis. When not working, Don watched Fox News. He loved animals and at one time bred the most beautiful yellow Labradors. He liked John Deer Tractors and all things OSU. He was a proud Oklahoma State Cowboy! Don loved his family and especially loved spoiling his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed! He was preceded death by: His parents, Ray and Ethel Cross; His sister, Naomi Snow and Brother, Dean Cross. Don leaves behind: His wife, Janie of the home; Children, Collette Blumer of Independence, KS, Charles Cross of Tulsa, OK, Aaron Cross of Purcell, Nathan Cross and wife Shea of Purcell, Brian King and wife Diana of Wellston, Donna LaValley of Lansing, MI; Sisters, Betty Dulworth of OKC, Sheryle Davis of AZ; 21 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 4 great greats; Several cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. Funeral Services are scheduled for 9:30 A.M. Friday, May 6, 2016, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, OK. |
