Lawton Oklahoma February 3, 2014 Birth date: June 17, 1938 Death date: February 3, 2014 Funeral with full military honors for Daniel E. Childers, 75, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Whinery-Huddleston Chapel with Pastor Paul Craig officiating. Inurnment will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery at a later date. Mr. Childers died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in Lawton with his family at his side. He was born June 17, 1938, in Salinas, Calif., to Lowell and Wilma Mayfield Childers. Daniel was raised and attended school in Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation and served his country for the next 21 years in Germany, where he met Christel on his first day pass, Greenland, Vietnam, Fort Benning, Ga., and finally at Fort Sill, where he retired in 1976. His commendations and medals included the Army Commendation Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, National Defense Service Medal, numerous Good Conduct Medals, and most importantly, a devoted and loving wife to cherish the rest of his life. After spending 21 years in the Army, Daniel spent another 21 years at Goodyear, retiring in 2000. He had numerous hobbies through the years, including fishing, hunting, gun smithing and leather crafts. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and has attended services at the Christian Center since 1995. Daniel was also an avid follower of Jesse Duplantis Ministries. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Dwayne and Donny Childers. Survivors include his wife, Christel of the home; two sons: Danny Childers and wife Susan, of Lawton; and Michael Childers, of Odessa, Texas; a daughter, Carmen Korynta and husband Chris, of Conway, Ark.; grandchildren: John-Michael Childers, Thomas Childers, Lori Fisher, Cathy Livengood, Bailey Cruz and Hailey Cruz; great-grandchildren: Breaynna, Xavier, Benjamin, Madison, Jacob, Nathan, Chloe, Caden, Orion, Riley, Aiden and Ethan; brothers: David Childers and wife Shirley, of Iowa; Richard Childers and wife Sue, of Maryland; sisters: Kathy Richardson, of North Carolina; Karla Strom and Shiela Malloy, both of Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. |
